I'm working on a project for my Introduction to Multimedia class where I'm compiling video clips with background music, but the audio keeps lagging behind the video after rendering. What's the best way to ensure they stay in sync throughout the editing process?

I'm using iMovie on a Mac for this project. The video is shot at 24fps, and the audio files are MP3s at 320kbps. I've tried aligning them manually in the timeline, but it's time-consuming and often gets off again when I add transitions. Is there a workflow or setting I should adjust to prevent this from happening?

To keep audio and video in sync in iMovie, follow these steps:

  • Start by importing all media files and check their properties to ensure consistency in frame rates and audio formats.
  • Use the 'Synchronize Clips' feature in iMovie: select both audio and video clips in the timeline, right-click, and choose 'Synchronize Clips' to align them automatically.
  • Adjust project settings to match your video's frame rate (24fps) to avoid conversion issues during export.
  • If sync problems persist, try converting audio files to a lossless format like WAV before importing, as compression can cause delays.
  • Preview your project frequently and make small adjustments in the timeline using the precision editor to fine-tune sync.

This should help maintain sync throughout your edits.

Perfect, exactly what I needed! I'll try synchronizing the clips first.

I had the same issue with iMovie; synchronizing clips saved me a lot of time.
