neurosensory retina, or inner layer, consists of three layers of nuclei (ganglion cell, inner and outer nuclear cell layers) and three layers of fibres (nerve fibre, inner and outer plexiform layers). The neurosensory retina is transparent and is thinnest at the fovea.
